Wis. dad of dead girl says he trusted God to heal
WAUSAU, Wis. — A central Wisconsin father charged with reckless homicide in the death of his daughter from undiagnosed diabetes told police he counted on prayer to heal her and never considered seeking medical care.
Eleven-year-old Madeline Neumann died on March 23, 2008, on the floor of the family’s rural Weston home as people surrounded her and prayed. Someone called 911 when she stopped breathing.
In a videotaped interview presented to jurors during his trial Wednesday, 47-year-old Dale Neumann told police that the family lives by faith and trusts “the Lord for everything, including healing.”
Prosecutors say Madeline was too weak to speak, eat, drink or walk and that Neumann had a legal duty to take her to a doctor.
