To combat diabetes Goa government is likely to launch a Diabetes care programme

Diabetes programme for improving life qualityIn order to make people aware of the Epidemic- Diabetes, Goa government has taken a major step by signing a memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Novo Nordisk Education Foundation, Bangalore.

This auspicious event took place on Thursday at Diabetes Care Programme in the presence of various eminent personalities like- Dr. V.N. Jindal, Dean, GMC, Dr. Rajan Kuncolienkar, Medical Supritendent,GMC, Dr. (Smt.) Rajananda Desai, Health Services, Senior Officials of GMC, Director of Health Services and Representatives of Foundation and Vishwajeet Rane, the Health Minister of the state government.

In that occasion our honorable health minister gave a lecture referring Diabetes is a major health hazard in the country, that affect young and old. He also says that, Goa has a alarming proportion of Diabetes patients.

Novo Nordisk education program is a program of Novo Nordisk, a focused healthcare company and a world leader in diabetes care. It has launched its National Diabetes Program (NDP) in 2000 as a systematic approach to improving diabetes care throughout the world.

From 2000 Novo Nordisk Education Foundation is working with the Indian Council of Medical Research and the WHO Collaborating Center in Chennai to formulate a National Diabetes Control Program (NDCP). The NDCP aims to focus the attention of policy-makers and other stakeholders on problems related to diabetes in India, and serves as a framework for state governments in establishing diabetes clinics and prevention centres.
