Vinegar Helps Combating Diabetes

A High Carbohydrate meal eventually gets absorbed but a recent study revealed that vinegar, which is a dilute solution of acetic acid, has the ability to blunt the expected rise in blood sugar at a rapid pace.

The acetic acid present in vinegar has the ability to suppress the activity of a specific carbohydrate digesting enzyme, disaccharidase.

After a sugary or high-carbohydrate meal, a sudden rise in blood sugar is observed, which triggers the release of insulin. This causes glucose to be removed from the blood and turned into fat, our storage form of dietary energy.

People consuming vinegar based diet have shown improved blood glucose level, while pre-diabetics had the best results.

The effects of vinegar can be helpful to those who have diabetes or are at a risk for developing it. It’ll be even better if people are encouraged to shift away from sugary foods and include more salad greens with vinegar-based dressings.
