The spin-a-thon event is gaining popularity, as more and more people participate in the event . The ADA reports that diabetes is one of the major diseases in the USA as nearly 75 million people are affected by it . They can participate in three hours or 30 minutes, whichever they prefer to. Participants have to pay the required fee based on the hours they can spend. Renand , a trainer and veteran attached to the event, terms the event as virtually tour de cure. It is not a competitive event and no experience is required, adds Renand. The event is popular among people other than diabetes patients. Veteran bicyclist Gene Nacey, owner of Life Cycle Fitness, feels that cycling is good as it reduces various health problems related to blood pressure, obesity and even low self esteem.
