Piramal Life Sciences Ltd, part of the Piramal Group of companies in Mumbai, commenced a phase I clinical study of P1736 drug in Netherlands.
The company announced that it got approval of Clinical Trial application from the Netherlands regulatory agency, the Central Commission on Medical Research Involving Human Subjects (CCMO) and the Independent Ethics Committee of the Foundation Evaluation of Ethics in Biomedical Research (BEBO). They will test this on 72 healthy volunteers, to meet the primary objective of determining
the safety and tolerance of P1736.
P1736 are new, orally active glucose-lowering compound specially for type II diabetic patients. This compound are different from other current marketed drugs, as this does not have any adverse side effects on liver function, blood plasma volume expansion or those related to weight gain.
The company also added that “An oral presentation of the pre=clinical data on this compound will be made at the forthcoming congress of the American Diabetes Association (ADA), to be convened in June at San Francisco, California, USA”
