Glumetza (Type 2 Diabetic Drug) Would be Promoted In The U.S Market by Santarus
According to the announcement done on 22 of July 2008, by Santarus Inc.(a renowned San Deigo based company), they have signed an agreement with Depomed Inc. to promote Glumetza (a diabetic drug ) in the U.S market.
Glumetza is a tablet which is used to cure type 2 diabetes. It delivers the extended dose of Metformin, which helps to control the blood sugar level, and also helps to control metformin’s gastrointestinal side effects.
This drug is approved by Food and Drug Administration (FDA). 500 mg tablet was approved in 2005 and 1000 mg version was approved in the December. The agency was asked by Depomed to approve the smaller 1000 mg pill in April which was designed by Diovail Corp.
The drug promoted by Santrus is likely to be started from its fourth quarter. In its first quarter Glumetza reached only $5.2 million.
