Harvard University scientists, have identified the new approach to treat diabetes. They have successfully convert pancreas cells to produce insulin. Doug Melton, co-director of the Harvard Stem Cell Institute is the study’s senior author.

A group of researchers of the University of Heidelberg, Germany, working on type 1 diabetes and end stage renal disease (ESRD), says that simultaneous kidney transplant with pancreas transplant will increase the long term survival as compared to kidney transplant alone.

As part of chronic pancreatitis treatment, the doctors at the University of Cincinnati’s Pancreatic Disease Center has offfered the surgical solution to remove the pancreas to harvest islet cells from the organ, and then re-implanted the cells into his body to help manufacture insulin.
